  3. Gathering Information What we Learned What we Know Red and blue make purple. Yellow and red make orange. Blue and yellow make green. What we want to know What colors make black? How do colors mix to make black? KWL Chart

  4. Question: If all the colors make black, will different colors show up when water comes in contact with black?

  5. Hypothesis If water comes in contact with black ink, then different colors will appear.

  6. Materials Round filter paper Scissors Small plastic cup Black marker Water Pipe Cleaner

  7. 2. Marked a dot in the center of the filter paper with the black marker. • Filled the cup with water. Procedures

  8. 3. Drew a circle of black dots around the dot in the middle of the paper. 4. Cut a piece of pipe cleaner in half with the scissors.

  9. 5. Pushed the pipe cleaner into the center of the filter paper where the center dot was marked. • 6. Carefully placed the filter paper and pipe cleaner on top of the plastic cup.

  10. 7. Let the water rise up the pipe cleaner to the paper filter and observed what happened.

  11. Observations/Data • The pipe cleaner got wet. • The water spread out when it reached the filter paper. • The ink spread when the water reached the black dots • Different colors appeared. • We saw pink, purple, yellow, light blue and dark blue, orange, dark green, and a little bit of red.

  12. What we Learned Blue, pink, yellow, green, orange, red, and purple make black. By mixing all the colors, black is made. What we Know Red and blue make purple. Yellow and red make orange.
