Housekeeping Issue • Any 12th Grade student who has accumulated Twelve (12) or more full-day unexcused absences from school will not be allowed to participate in Greenup County High School’s graduation ceremony or attend Senior Trip. • NOTE: Days missed due to Out-of-School Suspensions will count towards total unexcused absences beginning with the 2nd out-of-school suspension.

UP-COMING EVENTS • ACT Registration: • September 21st Test Date • Late Registration through Sept. 6th • Regular fee $36.50 plus Late fee $23.00 • October 26th Test Date • Regular Registration through Sept. 27 • Regular fee $36.50 • Fee Waivers are available to any junior or senior who has free/reduced lunch by federal guidelines (limit 2).

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PLAN • www.careercruising.com/ilp • Students have had an ILP since 6th grade and it is a requirement for graduation • Interest inventory, Skills inventory • Method Test Prep (ACT PREP) • College Search / College Major Search / Career Information / Scholarship Search / Resume Builder / State Assessment / Clubs and Organizations / Community Service • Parent Log On Information can be obtained

  9. Infinite Campus Portal • Log on information can be obtained from the school to log on to Infinite Campus to view your child’s grades, attendance, assessment, and any lunch charges.

  10. Athletic Eligibility • NCAA Eligibility Center • Registration Fee $70.00 • ACT Scores must be sent directly from ACT to NCAA • NAIA Eligibility Center • Registration Fee $70.00 • ACT Scores must be sent directly from ACT to NCAA

  11. COLLEGE VISITS • Seniors are entitled to 3 days excused absence to visit colleges. • Students must submit to Attendance Clerk proof of college visit. Colleges will give school excuses if they have documentation that the student was on campus for a visit. • Most colleges require a pre-registration for a campus visit. This can be done on their website. Also, you get what you ask for. • Walking tour only • Sit in on college class • Speak with representative in department of interest (nursing, engineering, etc.)

  12. COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS • Seniors should apply to at least 5 colleges • 1. A Dream School • If money were not a factor…………………… (student should meet admission criteria) • 2, 3, 4. Realistic Schools • A financial possibility AND student meets admission criteria • 5. A Safe School • If student must stay at home for financial or medical reasons.

COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS • Apply to schools now. • Watch Deadlines • Public Schools (deadline around Jan./Feb.) • Private Schools (deadline around Nov./Dec.) • Certain Programs have separate admission applications • Honors Program, Health Science Programs, Engineering, etc. • Applications: • Visit the college’s website—most offer and prefer on-line submission. Applications can also be downloaded to print and submit.

  14. COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS • Application Fees: Can be waived with a letter from counselor for free/reduced lunch students—if requested. • Official High School Transcript: Student must let me know to send the transcript. (by e-mail, or in person)

SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS • LOCAL: • Posted when received to a Word Document • Word Document is posted on Senior Bulletin Board and E-mailed home • Applications are located across from senior bulletin board outside my office. • Any electronic versions will be forwarded to student e-mail. • All information will be on my Web Page.

  16. SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS • NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS • NEVER PAY A FEE FOR A SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY!!! • www.kheaa.com • www.scholarships.com • www.fastweb.com • www.capexx.com Students will get a list of possible scholarships for which they meet the criteria.

SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS • MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS • College level scholarship opportunities based on ACT/SAT and GPA. • Some schools may look at other factors as well: rigor of course work, extracurricular involvement, community service, work ethic, leadership • DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS: Additional scholarships awarded by college major • Music, Engineering, Education, etc.

FINANCIAL AID: GRANTS AND LOANS • FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) • www.fafsa.gov • Apply Jan. 1st (or as soon as possible) of senior year. • Sessions @ GCHS Jan. 14th and 24th 8-3:30 Must make an appointment in December. • There is NO Fee to process the form. • Student and Parent both must sign FAFSA • Sign electronically with PIN (www.pin.gov)
