Primary Care Data • Approximately 79% of contact with the NHS is in Primary Care. • Wealth of Data almost inaccessible. • Data not coded uniformly – so many local codes • Difference in use of Read Codes between practices • Data not recorded at all
So What Does Public Health Need it For? • Public Health • Health Needs assessment • Disease Prevalence Analysis • Comparisons between practices for Intervention penetration • Health Equity Audit
So What Do PCT’s Need it For? • NSF’s • New GMS Contract • Audit • HEA - Care Gap Analysis • Service re-modelling (Commissioning)
The Way Forward • Delivering the performance management agenda in the NHS will depend on the availability of high quality information in general practice • Better, more consistent practice data • Readily available
