How To Throw A Fastball By: Brad Nickles
Why You Throw A Fastball • A fastball is key pitch that all pitches are based upon. The fastball is used in all situations, throughout time it has been the go to pitch. If you have good “junk” ,such as a curveball and a change-up, a fastball can set up the off-speed pitches as mentioned before.
Why Location is Important • Location is important because you can pick out the hitters weakness and capitalize upon his mistakes. Location also can control the balance of the hitter, if the hitter is guessing where your going to throw the ball then he is less likely to hit the ball.
Why Speed Helps • Speed helps because there is less reaction time for a hitter. Often greater speed can offset less control. Speed can dominate hitters and can control the game.
Different Kinds of Fastballs • Four seam- Less movement, more velocity • Two seam- More movement, less velocity • Cutter- Slight last minute drop or slice • Split-finger- Knuckles and drops, great movement
