What can we do? Housekeeping Lights left on in unoccupied areas Dirty lamps 2. Low-cost opportunities Overlit areas 3. Retrofits Obsolete lighting equipment
What can we do? 1. Housekeeping – Turn off lights in unoccupied areas: Incandescent lights that aren’t needed. Fluorescent lights when they’ll be off for at least 15 minutes. High-intensity discharge (HID) lights when they’ll be off for at least an hour.
What can we do? Housekeeping (cont’d) – Clean dirty lamps, lenses and light-reflecting surfaces: Dust and grease can reduce lighting by as much as 30 percent. Clean fixtures every two years at least (more often in greasy, dusty or smoky places, especially when they’re part of an HVAC system).
What can we do? 2.Low-cost opportunities – Reduce light in overlit areas: Look at places like storage areas, hallways and meeting rooms that don’t need to be lit all the time.
What can we do? 3. Retrofits – Upgrade obsolete lighting equipment: Can we save energy and money?
