What are we celebrating? • May 28, 1958 – The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Alaska Statehood Bill by a vote of 208 to 166. • July 7, 1958 – President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Alaska Statehood Bill into law. • January 3, 1959 – President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the proclamation admitting Alaska to the U.S. a “moment after the stroke of noon.”
State Kickoff Events May 23-31, 2008 - Fairbanks: Bonfire, BBQ, Regatta, Trace Adkins Concert (23rd), Museum Day, Kite Day, Elton John Concert (29th) June 27-29 2008 – Anchorage: Kick-off with “Were In” weekend. Free concert at Elmendorf – streamed to U.S. troops around the world, thanks to AT&T. Podcast available for 30 days. Robins Airforce Band and Airforce Band of Alaska. Weekend ends with parachutes, giant bonfire. Will be televised – you don’t want to miss this. July 3rd 2008 thru weekend - Juneau: Kick-off event June 14, 2008 with Alaska Symphony.

Contests4-5 members – ongoing as events occur Determine if, when and what contests should be supported by the KPB ASCC. Suggestions include: • 5K or 10K Run • Bike Race • Coloring • Eating Contest • Geography, History or Trivia Quiz • KPB Poem • Posters • Snowmachining, X-Country Skiing, Dog Sled Race • Talent Contest (KPB’s Got Talent) Determine appropriate awards and recognition
Passport to KenaiShanon (KPTMC) plus Chamber reps – active thru January 3, 2010 Shanon will chair Chamber representatives will participate
Quilt7-10 members – January 3, 2009 when display begins FAST TRACK!! Distribute project information and solicit participants Need: • Quilt blocks 24” X 30” (16 blocks make a quilt – 8’ X 10’) • Block with KPB logo • Block with KPB Statehood logo • Many others by individuals, groups, communities MUST FIND OUT WHEN BLOCKS ARE DUE!!! Finished projects to be displayed January 3, 2009
School ActivitiesDoris Cannon (KPBSD, Dir. Of Curriculum) will chair, 5-10 members – term thru January 3, 2010 • Participate in Partner Contests and Events: • Alaska Airlines • UAA/UAF Forum, Conference • Determine other events/contests • Determine appropriate awards, recognition
Time Capsule7-10 members – serve until Time Capsule contents are delivered to ASCC. Determine and gather contents for KPB contribution; Contact ASCC regarding: • size of contribution allowed • contribution deadline • contribution site Cities, communities can contribute individually.
Logo3-5 members – term immediate and urgent FAST TRACK – URGENT Develop logo reflecting our theme – will be on our website, marketing products and displays. Logo can be placed on ASCC website to serve as link to our website. FYI - ASCC updated site will be launched within a week. 50-50-50Merrill will chair, 2-3 members, serve until interviews completed Arrange time, place and participants: • 50 interviews • 50 people • 50 days
Steering CommitteeMembership - chairperson of each other committee. Executive oversight of all KPB ASCC sponsored events. Duties : • Coordinate Planning Calendar • Determine Presence at Fairs, Festivals, Other events • Medallion Acquisition and Sales • Oversee Web Site • Determine Funding Resources and Expenditures • Parades, Fireworks, BBQ’s, etc Speakers, Special Guests • Consider KPB ASCC Sponsored Events (Parades, Fireworks, BBQ’s, Special Speakers) • Additional Committee Needs
