Foundation:Nottingham Summer Conferencefocuses on: -The nature and management of the course, including the assessment framework-How to use the Guides and the ROPD-How to observe teaching effectively-How to plan lessons -Introduction to the ‘core subjects’/Foundation Stage -Insights into some ‘Foundation subjects’-The importance of ECM, diversity in the school population and individual differences-An introduction to SEN-The importance of listening and speaking and issues arising from communication impairment-The roles of mentor and SCITT coordinator & trainee expectations and entitlements

Phase One:The Autumn Term in schoolsfocuses on: -Focused observation leading to managing groups, team-teaching and then to solo teaching in NC-based or EYFS classrooms-Subject knowledge for teaching: auditing and enhancement-Detailed study of NC ‘core subject’ pedagogy or EYFS Areas of Learning-Professional Studies, inc assessment & AfL-Work targeted on diversity, inc EAL and SEN -Teaching Practice 1 (two weeks) + Review-Assignments 1-3

Phase Two:The Spring Term in schools -Further focused observation to develop solo teaching skills in BOTH key stages -More on NC ‘core’ pedagogy or EYFS AofL-Study of chosen NC ‘foundation subject clusters’ in KS1/KS2 -Further focus on diversity, EAL and SEN-Transition to School 2 and the demands of the alternative KS-Teaching Practice 2 (four weeks)-Review (in Home School)-Assignment 4-Plan & write Understanding Learning assignment-Start Assignment 5 classroom-based investigation The Easter Conference at Nottingham prepares the transition to Phase Three

Phase Three:The Summer Term in schools -Complete / submit classroom investigation in specialist subject (Assignment 5)-Pedagogy of all subjects/areas of learning refined-Development of full solo teaching skills -Teaching Practice 3 (five weeks) Transition:The Career Entry and Development Profile Transition Point-1 (or equivalent) -Entry into NQT phase SCITT year details
