Who is More Likely To Be Affected? • Studies from the US Department of Health and Human Services show that adults (20 and older) are more likely to be obese but there is a high number of obese people in every age group (US Department of Health and Human Services). Food and Diet That Help Prevent Obesity • Don’t eat out • Follow the guidelines from the Canadian Food Guide • Minimize sugar intake • Limit saturated fats and trans fats

What is obesity and How or why does it occur within the body? • Obesity- “The condition of being grossly fat or overweight” (google definitions) • Obesity can occur in the body for many reasons; some being, eating processed foods or foods that are high in fat, “not eating fruits, vegetables and unrefined carbohydrates, such as wholemeal bread and brown rice”(Nhs.uk, 2014), drinking a lot of alcohol (contains a lot of calories) , eating out a lot because foods can be high in sugars and fats, eating larger portions, and even comfort eating. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Obesity/Pages/Causes.aspx
What does obesity look like and symptoms People with obesity often look like • Some symptoms for obesity are: • Breathless • Snoring • Difficulty sleeping • Feeling tired (generally everyday) • Inability to cope with sudden physical activity • Back or joint pain Google : Obesity
Causes of this illness • “Most cases of obesity are caused by eating too much and moving too little. If you consume high amounts of energy from your diet but do not burn off the energy through exercise and physical activity, the surplus energy is turned into fat.” (Nhs.uk, 2014)
Prevention of this illness • To prevent obesity, you should eat: • Plenty of fruit and vegetables • Plenty of potatoes (carbohydrates) bread, rice, pasta and other starchy foods (ideally you should choose wholegrain varieties) • Some milk and dairy foods • Some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein • Small amounts of food and drinks that are high in fat and sugar
