Important Dates and Information • January 30th to March 4th– Parent and Student Connect will be open to select courses • Once students choose on Student Connect parents have to approve the choices and should SAVE (send) course requests via Parent Connect • February 1st -Junior Course planning evening –for your parents @ 7:00pm
GraduationRequirements BC Graduation Program: Students begin Grad Program in Gr. 10 Courses are tracked for Gr. 10-12 Students must meet ministry course requirements and the 80 credit minimum for graduation.

Provincial Exams Graduation Requirements… • English 10 (20%) • Mathematics 10 (20%) • Science 10 (20%) • Social Studies 11 (20%) • English 12 (40%) Final mark is a blend of the school mark and exam mark *All optional Gr. 12 provincial exams have been eliminated* *Provincial Scholarships worth $1000 are awarded at the end of Gr. 12 based on the results of these exams: *Students must achieve one A and three B’s on these exams (not blended mark) on 4 of their best provincial exams and must also achieve a B or higher on there EN 12 final mark.
Planning 10 • Planning 10 curriculum: • Graduation Program • Education and Careers • Health • Finances • Students will be introduced to the Grad Transitions Plan • Planning can be taken in Gr. 10 or 11 • Planning 10 will be available at SDSS and Online through Delta Access and SDSS, for both English and Immersion programs. • Registration for both will be available on Parent Connect • Online Planning 10 courses will be tied to the school and have an in-house instructor • Online Planning 10 courses will run September to June *Planning 10 Online via SDSS must be chosen at the time of course selection*
Graduation Transitions Plan 150 min/week of physical activity 30 hours of work or volunteer experience (can be achieved over Gr. 11 and 12 year) Transition ‘Plan’ (post-secondary, travel, work, etc.) Final interview The Transitions Plan is expected to be completed in the first term of their Gr. 12 year. • To be completed in Grade 12 • Content to include 3 areas: • Personal Health • Community Connections • Career and Life • Plus:

Changes to the Math Curriculum • 3 Pathways: • Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics– designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into the majority of trades and for direct entry into the work force. NO UNIVERSITY WILL TAKE THIS MATH FOR ENTRANCE!! • Foundations of Mathematics – designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for post-secondary studies in programs that do not require the study of theoretical calculus. • Pre-calculus - designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into post-secondary programs that do require the study of theoretical calculus. What About a Language?… UBC No Language requirement Language 11 for all faculties Language 11 for Humanities only; No requirement for other faculties UVIC SFU Beginners Language 11 or Language 11 for all faculties UNBC, UBC Okanagan, Most BC Colleges, BCIT
Language Options • French 8-12 • Spanish - 9, 10, Intro Spanish 11, Spanish 11/12 *If students are interested in Spanish and did not take Spanish 9, they will need to take Intro Spanish 11
Language Challenge Exams • for those students with a background in Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, Punjabi, Korean, German • they may apply to write a challenge exam to earn Language 11 and 12 credits. • Application process is in the fall • Exam will take place in January • Exams are free to all students, except International students *Challenge exam scores can be used towards the student’s number of required academic 12 courses, but the score will not be tallied into their GPA.
Summer School Remedial • For those students who need to repeat a course • Must have achieved 40% or better in their class for entrance • 4 weeks in July • 2 course maximum • 1 hr 45 min. class • English 9, Socials 9, Math 9, Science 9 Full-Credit • 3 hour class • 5 weeks in July/Aug • English, Science, & Math 10 courses write Provincial in August • English 10, Socials 10, Science 10, Math 10, Planning 10 • Traditional and blended (some online work) options
Online Courses • Delta’s online school is called Delta Access – check website for courseavailability • Spring / Summer session in all courses currently offered (including Planning 10) • Online courses also available through: Vancouver Learning Network (VLN) Surrey Connect Fraser Valley Distance Education (FVDES) EBUS
External Credits • Students may earn credits toward graduation through training programs outside of school: • Dance (Royal Academy of Dance) • Music (Royal Conservatory of Music) • Sports (Provincial or National team level) • Lifesaving (Bronze Cross, NLS, Instructor) • Cadets (National Defense Cadet Certification) • Coaching (Level 1-2, First Aid, 75-150 hours) • Official (Theory, evaluation, 75-125 hours) • Driver Ed. (ICBC accredited program) • First Aid (WCB level II and III) *students are required to submit documentation as proof of program completion
Passport to Education • Offered by the Ministry of Education • Grades 10 -12 • Earn up to $1000 for post-secondary • For students demonstrating high achievement in academic and non-academic areas • Based on their best 5 subjects • Awarded to approximately the top 30% of each grade • Gr. 10 = $250 • Gr. 11 = $250 • Gr. 12 = $500
