  1. Look up Appraisal details for Appraisers (Primary and Secondary Care)

  2. Appraisal history on SOAR Primary Care (GPs): • SOAR was designed for GP Appraisal in 2002, and as such, SOAR has all GPs’ appraisal history as recorded by the Appraisers… • …but not copies of the Scot 4 forms, unless you used the online version Secondary Care: • SOAR was introduced to Secondary Care in 2012, and as such, only appraisals done on SOAR using the online forms are recorded • We have no function to log old paper interviews on SOAR, only new appraisals using SOAR’s online appraisal forms

  3. Access to Appraisal history • Appraisers only have access to their current assigned appraisees’ appraisal history – no one else • If you try to access a former appraisee’s appraisal records, you will be met with a security violation message as you are no longer that appraisee’s appraiser

  4. Click on “Appraisees” • On this page you can see: • Appraisee’s GMC number • Latest Interview Date (so you can see when they are next due their appraisal) • How many appraisals they’ve had • How many appraisals with you • If they have a Co-Appraiser (Clinical Academics) • Click on Appraisee name for user details

  5. Click on “Appraisals” tab • Appraisal History listed (latest at top) • Click on notepad icon (under Edit) to view corresponding appraisal details • For GPs, brown notepad icons mean that appraisal was done using online appraisal forms; white icons signify old/paper forms • For Secondary Care users, only appraisals done using online forms are recorded on SOAR

  6. View Interview details • Check Interview Status • Unconfirmed means the appraisee has not yet accepted confidentiality, or not yet submitted forms for sharing • You can’t action this for your Appraisees – THEY must submit the forms and accept the confidentiality • Submitted forms are accessed via read-only tabs along the top • On this page, you can also remind/notify your appraisee of the scheduled appraisal (although there are system automated emails in place) • You also have functions to “Create Form 4” after you’ve had your appraisal with the appraisee; • Or if applicable, Form 5A: Exemption of Appraisal (Mat Leave; Sick Leave, Sabbatical etc)

  7. Further support • Medical Appraisal Scotland website: • www.appraisal.nes.scot.nhs.uk • Resources, FAQ and other useful sections • Local Administration teams: • Contact details on Medical Appraisal Scotland • SOAR Helpdesk • Black “Help” box on right when logged into SOAR; • or SOAR@nes.scot.nhs.uk • Due to capacity issues we are unable to offer telephone support • You can request a call back via the Helpdesk – but we need detailed descriptions of the issue(s)
