  1. Fit in Your World An Activity Day for S1 Students 5 June 2013

  2. What is it all about? • Fit in Your World is a day out of normal timetabled classes. You will be in groups of around 16 students and will spend the day attending interactive workshops • This is a chance for you to engage in a different environment and with organisations outwith the school.

  3. Fit in Your World activity day covers all types of wellbeing including: • Good nutrition, physical fitness, emotional wellbeing, achieving your potential, caring for others and our planet EMOTIONAL HEALTH

Fit in Your WorldWhat does this phrase mean to you?Brainstorm Activity These are not answers…just add to your list! • Stay strong / be active • Eat well • Work hard • Be environmentally aware • Help build a strong economy • Contribute to the community • Look after others • Engage in education • Be progressive

  5. Why are we doing this? • Strong individuals build strong communities • You can make a difference to your community locally, nationally and internationally • You are the future!

  6. So, what will happen on the day? • Each student will have a group leader and name badge. You must stay with your group throughout the day and you will be registered at each activity. • Your day will start with a Gig in the Assembly Hall. Don’t be late, this will be a highlight and will certainly wake you up! • Following this you will visit 3 areas and workshops throughout the school for the remainder of the day.

Area 1 – Workshops • Urban Roots • Local, sustainable food projects – get involved • Seafood Scotland • Sustainable fishing, impact of fishing on Scottish Enterprise and jobs, tasting. • The Healthy Mediterranean Diet • Tasks and tasting • Global Citizenship • Be in the big picture - Food Crisis and Fair Trade

Area 2 - Workshops • Langside College • Therapies and Stress Management workshop • The Talk Talk Quiz (Languages) • Fast paced interactive quiz – do you know your taramasalata from your tiramisu?! • Anti smoking workshop • An update on community health • Glasgow Science Centre • Your body is an amazing machine - Explore the science behind how your body works with these exciting workshops

  9. Area 3 – Be Physically Fit • White T Shirt • Black shorts usual outdoor kit • Change of trainers • Bottle of water • Working with coaches from the community and sampling exciting activities like hockey, basketball cricket • Remember it’s all about the ‘taking part’. Be a good sport, a team player and have fun being active

  10. How do I prepare for the day? • Come to school on time. You will go to the Assembly Hall as soon as you have registered. • Have a think about the focus of the day, check out websites and jot down some good questions • Bring a positive attitude and be open to new experiences • Lunch will be 20 minutes later 12.50 - 1.40pm • Remember your gym kit and water Please note this in your homework diary
