Unit 3: Government and Unrest A Study in the Role of the CitizenCase Study: Ancient Greece Essential Questions: • How does the geography of a place impact the development of civilizations? • Who holds the power? • How does this group or person in power keep or lose power? • What role should the citizens have in government? Why? • Which form of government is most effective? Why? • How have debate and diplomacy shaped history?

  2. Warm-up • Take out a pen/pencil

  3. DBQ Essay Talking Policy: Talking (for any reason) results in a deduction of 5pts each time I have to ask you to not talk • DBQ regents essay: Government • Historical Context: Throughout history, societies have held different viewpoints on governmental decision-making and the roles of citizens in this decision-making process. The decision-making process can range from absolute control to democracy. • Task: Using information from the documents and your knowledge of global history and geography, write an essay in which you • Compare and contrast the different viewpoints societies have held about the process of governmental decision-making and about the role of citizens in the political decision-making process. • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a political system that is under absolute control or is a democracy.

  4. HOMEWORK* NONE – unless – you haven’t finished your Persuasive Speech Project!!!!
