Self Aligning, Great Wipe, and Self Cleaning • The contact hoop floats for hundreds of thousands of low resistance low insertion force test cycles (ball insertions) • Free floating significantly reduces side lateral shear forces that can and do dislodge balls from the package • Oxide removal and self cleaning during contact : • The hoop travels downward through an arc providing rotational hoop wipe (the hoop rim rotates) on the surface of the ball. • The rotation of the rim is a progressive radial orientation to the point of contact with the mating solder ball. • This effect is produced using the on-center axis centerline of the contact pin.
