  3. Workshop Goals • Rationale for implementation of sound Human Resources practices in parishes and organizations with a faith-based foundation • Presentation of infrastructure of human resources • Informational • Legal • Procedural • Provision of information about HR “body of knowledge”

  4. Managing Parish Talent • What does it take: To think strategically about Human Resources? To manage healthy organizations? To get the best out of people? To develop talent? To plan for succession? To use effective HR strategies for the sake of mission?

  5. Business Practices and Church • Goal: • To advance the effectiveness of our parishes and Church organizations in achieving our mission. • Implementation of sound human resources policies in ways that respect and value our faith-based identity.

  6. Good Management requires: • Financial skills • Legal accounting practices • Excellent planning processes • Stewardship including fund development • Transparency • Marketing • Communication

  7. Human Resources • HR business practices have been adopted later • Separation of Church and State • Small organizations with many volunteers • Roles of clergy and vowed religious • Are good HR practices compatible with Church identity?

  8. Effective Human Resources practices • Support and enable people who “do the mission.” • Enable us to achieve full realization of mission • Support the full realization of human potential of ministers, employees and volunteers • Enable us to serve the People of God and promote the Gospel
