How Does a CTSO fit into my overall program • CTSO Promotes: • leadership • teamwork • citizenship and character development • emphasizes high ethical standards • superior work skills • lifelong education and pride. • Activities foster the development of: • problem-solving ability • teamwork skills • building self-confidence • communication skills.
Why Am I A CTSO Advisor? • students who have participated in a CTSO have • higher levels of academic motivation and academic engagement, compared with students in a general education curriculum. • higher levels of academic motivation • career self-efficacy • civic responsibility

How Do I Find The Time To BeA Successful CTSO Advisor? • Organize • Plan • Educate/Train Students • Enlist other faculty members • Do not “reinvent” the wheel • Ask for help!

Advisor’s Responsibilities • Develop a program of activities and calendar • Develop interest among staff and students • Develop a resource list for advisors as well as students • Hold elections to identify student leaders (chapter officers) • train officers in basic leadership skills • plan and conduct chapter meetings • allow students to take the lead when possible • Identify committees or team members to organize activities • Keep Everyone Informed
