GROW ALL @ BLGPS 2018 Know STP Understand Teaching Areas Apply in Classrooms
Open Classrooms • GROW ALL – Collaboration • Observer and observed are a team! • Key considerations for 2019 • Based on 2018 feedback and review: • It was difficult to find a suitable time due to timetable • Many areas to observe • Teachers appreciate the recognition of their strengths and the constructive feedback they received • KP’s involvement
Guiding the process Teachers and observers will go through the four steps in the lesson observation process.
The teacher will design a lesson using the active learning process pedagogical scaffold. It comprises 3 design phases that draw reference from STP’s Teaching Processes to guide teachers systematically in the preparation, enactment and assessment of active learning. The teacher will be guided in the lesson design using the Lesson Plan and Reflection Template. The key questions in each phase provide the scaffold to guide teachers in the lesson design.
The pre-lesson discussion should be held at least three working days before observation. • The discussion can take place in the following forms: 1) Face-to-face discussion between teacher and observers 2) Online discussion. Upload lesson plan on a Google platform / share rights to word document so that comments/questions/suggestions can be given by observers. • The teacher should explain his or her plan so that the observer better understands the context in which the lesson will be taught.
The observers should have the updated version of lesson plan before the start of the lesson. • Observers will record observations on the Lesson Observation template. The lesson observation notes will allow the observers to recall the teacher’s specific practices at the post-lesson discussion. • Collect evidence of how the teacher has promoted thinking and discussion. • (Process of thinking. Can capture by scribing/photos/videos)
The teacher and observers should meet for a post-lesson discussion within three days after lesson observation. • Before sharing any observations, the observer should ask the teacher to talk about his or her reflections of the lesson. • During the discussion, the observer should identify the strengths and the areas that the teacher can improve on. • The teacher will complete the reflection of his or her lesson based on the feedback given by the observers. • The teacher will upload a copy of the lesson plan, reflection template and observation forms to the general office for filing within a week of lesson observation.
