(Miami University of Ohio, Economics) • The method has roots in the case study approach used by business and law schools. • Humanities disciplines can argue that they have used this methods for centuries when students are given reading assignments to complete outside of class to prepare for an in-class discussion.
Flipped Classroom • Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams chemistry teachers at Woodland Park High School in Woodland Park, CO, 2007. • They became aware of software that would record a Power Point presentation including voice and any annotations and convert it into a video file that could be distributed online. They did this initially for students who missed classes. Flipped PD What is this? How is it alike, similar to, different from what you have experienced?
Flipped PD… • Teacher-Centered (not that other PD is not)! • Flips the choice (Short, interest, burst type sessions). • Uses the expert differently. • Provides a variety of experiences. • Currently used as a technology model. • Connects nicely to teacher evaluation. • Can focus on product or process.
