  1. High School 101 for Parentsand Communication How To MHS PTSA Program August 28, 2012

  2. Attendance Hours School starts at 7:30 am – This means that they must be seated in their first period class at this point. They can arrive by 7 am. Late Arrivals Students must get a pass from the attendance office if they arrive after the 7:30 bell. The first tardy gets a warning; after that there are increasing consequences (see the attendance brochure, student planner, or website for the list). Absences Parents should call the attendance office if the student will be out sick. They will call you otherwise. A written note must be brought to the attendance office when the student returns to school. See the attendance brochure, student planner, or website for the specific requirements.

  3. Attendance Continued Appointments A note, that includes a phone number for the parent, must be sent in for a student to leave during the day for an appointment. The student must turn the note into the attendance office in the morning as the attendance office will use the phone number to verify the needed dismissal with the parent. College Trips/Vacations These absences must be requested at least 7 days prior to the needed absence. The form is available in the attendance office or on the website. Students may have up to 4 days of college visits or a maximum of 5 vacation days per school year.

  4. Parking Parking Permit Parking on the school campus is a privilege granted to juniors and seniors. A Parking Agreement Form must be completed and submitted with the required documentation (see form). Where to Park (See next slide)

  6. Cell Phone Usage/Policy • Cell phone use information can be found in the student planner and regulation 400-18. Regulation 400-8 concerns the discipline for violations of 400-18. • Use by Parents: • Please discussion any contact you would have with your student during the day. • Please try to avoid texting student during the school day. • For emergencies, please call the school office instead of contacting the student via the cell phone.

  11. Club Day • Many extracurricular activities are done during club day. The list of available clubs is located on the MHS website. • The specifics are listed on the website or in the Student Activity Information brochure. • There are 4 club days per semester. • All clubs must have a staff advisor.

Communication How To • Question/Concern for Teacher • Usually the first person you should contact is your student’s teacher for all classroom questions. • Please see the syllabi sent home this week for the preferred way to contact the teacher. All staff can be reached at their FCPS e-mail (firstname.lastname@fcps.org). • Question/Concern for Guidance Counselor • Please contact counselors for schedule questions, college/career planning questions, and any personal/social concerns. • Question/Concern for Administrator • Mr. Watson is responsible for students A-K • Mrs. Jeffrey is responsible for students L-Z
