The Welfare of Animals at Markets Order 1990Covering calves(Calf means a bovine animal under the age of 6 months) • Minimum age – 7 days old • Navel must be healed and dry • Must not be tied up • Adequate supply of suitable bedding • Sufficient size of pen to allow calves to lie down • Provide covered accommodation, adequately ventilated • Declaration to state that the calf has not been brought to a market more than once during the previous 28 days • All calves must be removed from the market within 4 hours from the time when the last calf has been sold
Status of Markets • No auction markets are approved for direct export – on normal market days • Limited number of markets are approved as Export Assembly Centres
