Jackson, MS (August 25, 2011)— For college students and recent college graduates, finding an internship or even an entry-level job isn’t easy to come by in this down economy. Though with the help of Jackson State University’s Career Services Center the search may be a little easier. On Tuesday, August 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Reddix Building at Jackson State University the CSC held an open house to help students register and enlightened them on the benefits of the Tigers2Work program. Tigers2Work started in 2006 as an online manager that allows JSU students and alumni to electronically submit resumes to employers, search for internships, jobs and search for employer information. Senior Graphic Design major, Pernell Goodwin said he joined the program two years ago to get a head start in his career field. “We highly encourage students to register and take advantage of the various opportunities that are offered.” said Alisa Hughes, Office Manager for the Career Services Center. One of the beneficial tools that the program has is a feature called Interview Stream where you can interview yourself and see how you did or e-mail it to be critiqued. “Tigers2Work is very important to take part in especially with the economy because it lends a helping hand.” said Brian Bland, junior Business Administration student. Once a student registers e-mails with job postings are sent out as well as tweets on Twitter. April McClung, recruiting manager for Enterprise Holdings informs the students that it is imperative to start their job search early, have experience, be open to different things and take advantage of internships, co-op’s and volunteer work. The competition is rough, so it pays to be prepared and with Tigers2Work students are provided with all the necessities they need to matriculate through college and graduate. -30- The Jackson State University Career Services Center provides the students with career coaching, job search skill development, internship programs and on-campus interviews. The Center also provides effective and efficient services to employers through recruitment programs and activities.
