  17. Your Assignment • Shoot a roll of film based on the ideas of Modernism. Your roll should contain many shots of the same objects. • 2. The object should be abstracted – that is, ZOOM IN! Get different, unusual angles! • 3. You should also have several reflections – think glass, handheld mirrors, sunglasses, rear view mirrors, water, etc. • 4. Think about LIGHTING, BACKGROUND AND COMPOSITION! • FILM DUE: Wed. 4/6 • CONTACT SHEET DUE: Mon. 4/11 • 3 PRINTS DUE: Wed. 4/27

  18. Your prints are due TODAY! • 1. Hang your prints on the panel next to your class period. • 2. Put your negatives, contact sheet, and test strips in a folder. • 3. Fill out the Composition Critique Sheet and place it in the folder. • 4. Place the folder on my desk. After our critique tomorrow, you will put your three prints into the folder for grading.

  20. Critiques – Why do we critique? • 1. Take a blank sheet of paper and copy this: • Composition (Can you see what rule was used? What is it?) • Film Exposure (Correct focus, exposure, not too light or too dark) • Print Quality (Neat, cut correctly, stain-free, good contrast) 2. Now choose one or more photos from the board and jot down what is successful about each and what could be improved in each using the criteria above. This will be collected and graded.

  21. Sample • Susie Photostudent Photo 1 3/31/11 • Photo 1 (Tulips) – • Successful comment: I love the composition of the photo. The way the artist has used leading lines really brought my eye to the focal point, which is the tulips. • Suggestion: The tulips are slightly blurry, so I think the artist could have focused the image a bit better before printing.
