Activities that MSA can organize • Services: Prayer room, Friday prayer settings, lockers, etc. • Resource Center: A room where we can have a small library for us on campus. • Co-operation with MSA National, U of O MSA and other organizations. • Islam 101: It is a series of lectures that used to take place on both campuses few years ago in Ottawa. • More halaqa’s on campus.
Activities that MSA can organize Cont’d • IAW: Islam Awareness Week. That’s where we present and represent Islam to students and Alumni. • Consistency of Dawa to non Muslims: Can be achieved through dawa tables and other tools. • Consistency of outings and gatherings to Muslims. • News letter and being media oriented. • Brothers Bash (BB), Sisters Bash (SB), sports, etc
Categorizing the events • Taking in consideration the current lack of man power in MSA, we have divided the events into five categories. Our plan is based on forming a balance between the five categories, rather than focusing on one and neglecting the others. • The main goal of MSA this year is to form a Muslim body on campus and to increase the sense of brotherhood/sisterhood. So within the same category, events that meet our goal receives the highest priority.
The five categories • 1- Services: Prayer room cleaning, Juma’ settings, buying material, lockers, etc. • 2- Events tailored for Muslims: Juma’, Grad Dinner, Ramadan Iftar, Juma’ Khutab, Frosh week, Know Your Rights, Welcome Dinner, Welcome BBQ, etc. • 3- Special Programs: workshops, Islam 101, SB and BB, sport competitions, halaqat, etc. • 4- Dawa on campus: IAW, Dawa Tables. • 5- Public Relations: CUSA, Charlatan, clubs and societies, Muslim Link, Muslim organizations, etc.
1- SERVICES • Prayer room: maintaining the cleanliness of the prayer room once a week volunteers needed. • Friday prayer settings: MSA needs volunteers in transporting the prayer mats each Friday and help in setting up and removal. • Friday prayer food selling: MSA needs volunteers to sell food provided after the Friday prayer. • Lockers: To apply for lockers in front of the prayer room there will be a charge of $25. 3- Special Programs • Three Tajweed halaqas: Br. Yasser Mahjoub; Tajweed Halaqa. Instructions in English and Arabic (@ 4:00 pm every Thursday). Br. Abu Maryam; Tajweed Halaqa. Instruction in Arabic (@1:30 pm every Tuesday). Sr. Instructions in English (TBD). • BB and SB: They are biweekly outings for brothers and sisters. Examples would be bowling, sports competition between MSAs at U of O and Carleton U, etc. The event will be planned in co-operation with U of O MSA. • Islam 101: Biweekly series of lectures that focuses on the science of Qur’an, tafseer and practical implications in our daily life.
