Which country? Location? Iran, Bam Arabian plate vs. Eurasian plate Continent -><- Continent Destructive margin-> Creating earthquakes (Geography)
Theory of plate tectonisPlate boundaries Alfred created the idea, Pangea (The plates move)
Natural Hazards In 2003 there was an earthquake in Bam with a 6.6 on the richterscale. In this earthquake 25000 people got killed. Since the plates ARE moving there will be another earthquake In this area (Geography)
Annual Temperature average: Climate The climate in Iran is seasonal (like everywhere else) but has not changed much over the years (Iran traveling centre) Average temperature Summer: It is pretty warm Winter: Between 12-16 degrees
How developed is the civilization? What’s it like? The population of the city is approximately 43,000 Not very developed 3rd world city Mud houses Not rich (Wikipedia)
Predict To predict a earthquake is nearly impossible but there are some ways to notice that it will happen Before the earthquake small cracks will appear in the ground There will be small foreshocks Animals act strange and change their habits Look at the date of previous earthquakes and find some sort of pattern (Bushell, Tony and Waugh, David)
Protect Buildings have strict earthquake regulations (check so they won’t collapse) Most buildings, roads and bridges have been strengthened They have practices regularly (so you know what to do) They have emergency supplies (in case you don’t have any) (Bushell, Tony and Waugh, David) Protect your self during an earthquake • Hide underneath something to protect your body (table) • Stay in a room without windows and high shelfs and other things that might harm you • DON‘T PANIC!!!
Prepare If you see any of the things that predict the earthquake, collect items such as: • Lots of food that will stay fresh • Water • Flashlight • First aid kit (in case of injuries) Good way to know if you have this is to make a checklist
