Progress: GIPPS WWRP Polar Prediction Project (PPP) • Joint ECMWF-WWRP/THORPEX workshop on polar prediction (24-27 June 2013) • Special QJ issue (deadline 28 February 2014) • First YOPP planning meeting (28 June 2014) • New steering group members: Francesco Doblas-Reyes, Phil Reid, Don Perovich and Jonny Day • Launch of International Coordination Office for Polar Prediction (hosted by AWI) with associated website: polarprediction.net • ICO support through Neil Gordon and Stefanie Klebe • 4th Meeting of the PPP steering group (1-3 October 2013) • Development of a draft YOPP Implementation Plan • Trust Fund contributions from different WMO member states
Progress: GIPPS WCRP Polar Climate Predictability Initiative (PCPI) • Cecilia Bitz is new co-leader • Ted Shepherd participated in Reading Polar Workshop June 2013 • Cecilia participated in SG4 meeting October 2013 • Six different initiatives have been identified • Three initiatives are joint with PPP • Cooperation agreement with PPP • Pan PCPI meeting in April 2014
Progress: IPPI Note – IPPI much wider than just research/GIPPS Will be covered in detail on a later agenda item
Future Considerations • Regular feedback on progress • Coordination between PPP and PCPI, and role of ICO for Polar Prediction at AWI • Coordination with other organisations • Promote GIPPS with • Member states (Trust Fund) • Funding agencies • Consider GIPPS funding from regular WMO budget
