  1. Festivals of India India sometimes is known as the country of festivals. It is a secular country. We, here celebrate a numerous festivals. We’lllearn more about them…

  2. Calendar This is a calendar for the main festivals celebrated in India….

  3. Lohri • Lohri is celebrated in January. • It is celebrated in the north ofIndia to celebratethe harvest season. • In thisfestival, people gather around a bon-fire andenjoy the heat and happiness from it.

  4. Vasant Panchmi • Vasant Panchmi is a festival celebrated for the Worship of Goddess Sarasvati, the Goddess of Learning. • It is celebrated in the month of February, during the spring season. • On this day, young children are taught & all people wear yellow color.

  5. Holi • Holi is the festival of colors which is celebrated in March. • It is religiously related with Lord Krishna. • It is also known as rang panchmi. • Here, we play with colors and water and also throw water balloons and colors on each other.

  6. Baisakhi • Baisakhi is a Sikh Festival celebrated during the time of Harvest of Crops. • It is celebrated on 13th of April. • It is also known as the HINDU NEW YEAR, meaning, the new year for Hindus. • On this day, devotees move to the Sikh places of worship with flowers and offerings in their hands. • Processions are also conducted on this day.

Janamashtmi • Janamashtmi is celebrated as the birth of Lord Krishna. • It is celebrated in August. • On this day, people worship Lord Krishna with different offerings. • There are different kinds of rituals followed here such as DAHI HANDI, to FAST till midnight and many more. • Krishna’s birth place Mathura, is richly decorated and people sing and dance till midnight there.

Raksha Bandhan • Raksha Bandhan is a festival which marks the lovely relationship between a brother and a sister. • Here, the sister ties a sacred thread which the sister ties on the brother’s wrist for protection and love from his side. • In exchange of the thread, the brother in return gives some gifts to his sister.

  9. Ganesha Chaturthi • Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated in September which marks the presence of Lord Ganesha on Earth for his devotees for about 10 days.. • This festival is named for the birth of Lord Ganesha and in this time span of these 10 days, people keep Idols of this God at home and worship it. • On the 10th day, people carry it to the rivers or ocean to immerse it with water which is known as GANAPATI VISARJAN. • Thus, people worship Lord Ganesha as a guest for 10 days and let him immerse in water so that he can come back next year to bless us all.

Dussehra… • Dussehra is a festival celebrated in October. • This is a festival which shows victory over pride, anger and falsehood. • On this occasion, people burn huge idols of Evil King Ravan as on this day, Lord Ram defeated King Ravan. • On this defeat of truth over evil and lies, Dussehra is celebrated.

  11. Diwali… • Diwali is the festival of lights, which is celebrated in the month of November. • This festival is celebrated on the Return of Lord Rama to his home after his an exile of 14 years. • On this day, every year, people lighten up their houses, light candles and burn crackers to celebrate the return of Lord Rama. • To celebrate this day, we decorate our houses and also make colorful paintings on the ground known as Rangoli.

Merry Christmas… • Christmas is celebrated as Lord Jesus Christ’s Birthday. • This festival is celebrated on 25th December every year. • It is also celebrated in India widely nowadays. • People exchange gifts, greeting cards, sweets to celebrated this festival here in India • Also, people bring Christmas Trees and decorate them.
