  3. A Meeting Takes Place… • Anytime two or more people get together to: • give or gather information • take action • plan • problem solve • make decisions

  4. Meeting=Theater • Meetings are the #1 thing bosses/leaders do. • Therefore, 100% of those meetings must contain: • excellence • enthusiasm • tempo • work-of-art Every meeting that does not stir the imagination and curiosity of attendees and increase bonding and cooperation and engagement and sense of worth and motivate rapid action and enhance enthusiasm is a permanently lost opportunity. ~~~Tom Peters

  5. Review Meetings… • Recall one of the worst meetings that you ever attended. • What specifically made it so horrible? • List & Rank your Top 5 • Who • Why • What • Length of meeting • Results?

Effective Meetings • Make sure a meeting is needed. • Develop an agenda and send it out prior to the meeting. • Responsibility assigned to with a suspense date. • Remember Tom Peters advice, “Five or less words to the wise.” • Right before the meeting ends, quickly ask each person how they feel about the take-aways. • deal now with frowns/dis-engagement. • If you notice someone did not speak up, casually/unobtrusively catch him/her for a moment as you leave.

Effective Meetings • have exciting start. • have been planned well. • have a clear purpose for the meeting. • the “right” people will attend the meeting. • the people that can make the decisions are there. • start and end on time. • have a __________ ending which launches the “to do’s” with vigor.
