Pew Pow • Think about the differences between a series circuit and a parallel circuit and explain which method is used to wire your house. Show a formula and give a good reason why you believe this to be true.
Objectives • Using our knowledge of Ohm’s Law and the Power Law, practice with Series Circuits ! • Now apply our physics understanding to solve parallel circuits for things like voltage, current and resistance.
Homework: • Castle Learning – Review • TEST !! - Tomorrow (Thursday!) (Friday if delay or snow day) - on all of Current Electricity (Packet)
Finish Parallel Worksheet • Homework Review • Go through packet examples. • Resistance • Resistivity • Current • Ohm’s Law • Power Law • Series and Parallel Circuits • Then review questions.
Try this: (show all units!) • The current in a wire is 8.0 amperes. The time required for 2.5 × 1019 electrons to pass a certain point in the wire is…
Show all work • An electric dryer consumes 6.0 × 106 joules of electrical energy when operating at 220 volts for 1.8 × 103 seconds. During operation, the dryer draws a current of…
The diagram below shows currents in a segment of an electric circuit. • What is the reading of ammeter A?
The following resistors are placed in parallel: 10 ohms, 15 ohms, 6 ohms and 20 ohms. Draw the circuit and show how you would measure the current through the 15 ohm resistor. These are connected to a 120V power source. What is the equivalent resistance?
Recall • series circuit – a circuit in which two or more elements are connected end-to-end so that a single loop of current is formed.
Definitions • parallel circuit – a circuit in which two or more elements are connected so that each has its own current loop.
Draw a series circuit out of a 50 ohm resistor and a 100 ohm resistor and a 200 ohm resistor and a 20V battery. What is the current through the 100 ohm resistor? • What is the voltage drop across the 200 ohm resistor? • Now do the same thing but make a parallel circuit.
