  2. A modern pow wow is a specific type of event where both Native American and non-Native American people meet to dance, sing, socialize, and honor American Indian culture. What is a Pow-Wow?

  3. There is generally a dancing competition at a pow-wow. They vary in length from one day sessions of 5 to 6 hours to three days. Major pow-wows or pow-wows called for a special occasion can be up to one week long.

  4. Women's Jingle Dance: a spiritual person dreamed of four women wearing jingle dresses standing before him. In the dream they taught the making of the dress, the sorts of songs that were appropriate and the way the dance was performed. Pow-wow dances

  5. The dance was a gift from the Creator to the Ojibway people for the purpose of healing. The dance was also present in the Lakota or Dakota tribes and has spread among other tribes. After nearly dying out, the dance regained popularity and is now a common category at most dance competitions. Jingle Dance

  11. Once a young man, lame in one foot, longed ever so much to dance. He took that longing out onto the prairie, praying for guidance as he limped up a small hill. On top of that hill, it came to him; he should develop his own style of dance. As he pondered this revelation, he looked down over the prairie with its swaying and swooping grasses.   14. This is a time for the men to dance in the way of their fathers and grandfathers, and some of these outfits or costume pieces are passed down through the generations as well. Men’s Northern Traditional Dance

  15. Men usually wear cotton or buckskin pants, a shirt and a breastplate of bones (or lighter weight plastic "bones") that may stop at the waist or the knees and a comb-like headdress (roach) of porcupine guard hair and deer tail hair. Men’s Southern Traditional
