Introduction to HVACWeek1 • What is HVAC? • History of HVAC • Types of HVAC careers/jobs and training facilities • Tools of the refrigeration trade and tools specific to HVAC • How/why heat transfer takes place/methods of heat transfer • 6th through 8th grades will use same basic curriculum with modifications
Week 2 • Understanding the refrigeration cycle and how it changes state in an HVAC system • Primary parts of the system and their purpose (evaporator, condenser, compressor, metering device, tubing) • Secondary parts of the HVAC system (electronic and mechanical equipment that controls the primary parts) • 6th -8th grades will use same curriculum with modifications
Week 3 • Wiring an HVAC system • Reading a schematic and basic wiring • Swaging and flaring of copper tubing • Soft soldering and low temperature soldering • For grades 6th-8th week 3 curriculum will cover Communication Skills • What are communication skills • Reading and writing • Listening and effective speaking
Week 4Introduction to Electrical • What is electricity and history of electricity • Types of electrical careers/jobs and training facilities/programs • Tools of the electrical trade and tools specific to the electrical field • AC and DC voltages • How electrical power generates and is distributed/types of power plants • 6th-8th grades same basic curriculum with modifications
Week 5 • How voltage, current, resistance, and power are related/what happens when there is a change in a circuit • Basic math • Ohm’s law and power formula • 6th -8th grades will use same basic curriculum with modifications
Week 6 • Hands on demonstration and practice: • Wall outlets • Switch outlets • Overhead lights • 6th -8th grades week 6 will cover employability skills • Succeeding in workforce • Critical thinking skills • Computer skills • Relationship skills
Week 7 • Home repair in and around the home • Home repair careers/jobs and training facilities • Tools of the home repair trade • Wood working and hand tools (saw, drill, hammer, screwdriver, sanding, painting) • Tool use/practice • 6th-8th grades will use same basic curriculum with modifications based on the age and ability of students
Week 8 • How to repair a leaking toilet and parts of a toilet • Repairing sink drains • Repairing and replacing sink and bathtub faucets • Replacing door knobs • 6th -8th grades will use same basic curriculum with modifications based on age and ability of students
Week 9 • Hands on project for students • 6th-8th grades will have a hands on project based on age and ability of student • Every Monday students will begin class with safety lesson for any tool or equipment that will be used for that week.
