Essay 2 student sample Born on the eighteenth of February 1612 Samuel Butler was the fifth of eight children born to Mary and Samuel Butler, Sr. The family lived on a farm in Strensham until their move to Barbourne in the parish of Claines in 1621 and later in Defford, which was near the town of Strensham. Butler was well-educated and attended the King’s School in Worcester until the age of fifteen. Samuel began to question the nature of formal education and did not attend college, taking employment managing Butler’s tenement and later serving as a secretary to Thomas Jeffrey, a justice of the peace.

The series was a satire on society’s prejudices and morals.
