Scientific inquiry • Man has always been eager to explain and understand the natural phenomena to the best of his ability. • There is reliance on empirical evidence or personal experience for scientific inquiry. • This inquiry in due course of time became more systematic and logical.
Scientific inquiry • The first systematic and logical approach could be attributed to Aristotle and Greeks. • This gave rise to Deductive Logic. It is a relationship between a major premise (a self evident assumption), a minor premise ( previously established by metaphysical truth or dogma, concerning a relationship), and a conclusion.
Method of Science • Identification & Definition of the problem. • Formulation of a hypothesis– a hunch, an assumption or an intelligent guess. • Collection, organization & analysis of data. • Formulation of Conclusion. • Verification, rejection or modifications of the hypothesis.
Prerequisites of Scientific Research Diligence, Meticulousness, Perfectionism. Logical Reasoning & Interpretations. Painstaking Observation. Skillful Hypothesis building.
Prerequisites of Scientific Research • Careful Designing & Sampling. • Control of Variables. • Choice of Tools/ Tests. • Precision in Data Collection. • Developing a scientific temper.
Prerequisites of Scientific Research • Applicability of Research Findings. • Capacity to add New Information. • Ethical Consideration- - Honesty in research data
