4. All nations from one In Acts 17:26, Paul says - “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth”. Challenged on the grounds that there are various blood types. In the Greek “blood” is omitted - the R.V. renders it: “hath made of one”, i.e. first Adam, then Noah. 9. Effect of intoxication - Gen. 9:21 Several Hebrew words are used for the first time in this verse including “wine”. “uncovered” – galah – to be uncovered, to reveal oneself. The verb indicates an action done on one’s own behalf – thus “he uncovered himself”. Consistent with Prov. 23:29-33– produces lack of control, loosens moral grip and arouses sexual desire. 10. “Nakedness” Hebrew - ervah- nakedness, nudity, shame, pudenda. First occ. in O.T. This is the word used throughout Lev. 18and 20 of uncovering nakedness – a euphemism for sexual relations – see Lev. 20:11. The use of this word implies shameful nakedness rather than simple nudity for which the word erom is used 10 times in the O.T. The latter occurs for example 3 times in Gen. 3(v.7,10,11). 11. Characteristics within the Ecclesia Several characters in Noah’s family encapsulate all types within the Ecclesial family. Noah – Upright but subject to weakness and failure – The earnest, but weak sinner. Ham– Ungrateful and devoid of respect and honour – Arrogant and spiteful sinner. Shem – Sensitive and respectful – Godly. Japheth – Dependent on others for leadership – Willing to conform and do what is right. Canaan– Privately base and corrupt – Quick to take advantage of other’s weaknesses. After the Flood

12. Why is Canaan cursed? Almost certainly involved in the transgression with his father. Perhaps in the aftermath when Ham emerged to declare Noah’s state. May have rushed in to look while Shem and Japheth fetched a covering for Noah. The Complete Word Study O.T. suggests may have been involved in some indecent behaviour with Noah before Ham entered the scene. The major reason- He is the father of the Canaanitish nations “spued” from the Land for their immorality, promiscuity and depravity in both domestic and religious life – Lev. 18:25-28; Deut. 12:29-31. 13. Shem – The Name-bearer Shem = A name; renown. Is a type of Christ. Shows respect and honour to his father. Provides a covering for a weak sinner. Leads others by example. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. After the Flood

14. arar – 6th occ. qalal - to make light or despicable; to curse. Blessing and Cursing Gen. 9:26– Youngs Lit. - “Blessed of Yahweh my God is Shem” - (6th occ. of barak). Gen. 9:25 – “Cursedbe Canaan”. 5th occ. of arar. The principle established here is that honourablebehaviour brings a blessing, while the opposite produces a curse. Hence, Gen. 12:3 – “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee”. After the Flood

Blessing Shem and Japheth honoured their father and bestowed the blessing of a covering. Inherited a blessing. Those who bless Abraham receive the blessing of a covering for sin and ultimate redemption – Acts 3:26. 17. Noah’s prophecy fulfilled Japheth is the progenitor of the white races who spread across almost the entire Eurasian continent. National perspective - Colonisation of many far off lands has fulfilled the prophecy. Religious perspective- Christianity claims to ‘dwell’ now because of its origins, and its claims of the ‘holy sites’. ‘Japheth’ (Gog) will be motivated by the desire to possess the ‘holy sites’ in its invasion of the Land.
