  1. Geometry • Agenda 1. ENTRANCE 2. Go over Practice 3. 3-6 Slopes of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines 4. Practice Assignment 5. EXIT

  2. PracticeWB 3-5 # 1, 2, 9, 11, 19, 25, 26, 33

  3. Chapter 3 3-6 Slopes of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

  4. Parallel Lines • Parallel lines have the same slope. ex: y = 3x + 5 y = 3x - 1

  5. Perpendicular Lines • Perpendicular lines have slopes that are opposite reciprocals. Their product is -1. ex: 3 · -⅓ = -1

  6. Example #1 • Are these lines parallel, perpendicular, or neither? L1: (-4, 2) (3, 1) L2: (-4, 0) (8, -2)

  7. Example #2 • Are these lines parallel, perpendicular, or neither?

  8. Example #3 • Are these lines parallel, perpendicular, or neither?

  9. Example #4 • Are these lines parallel, perpendicular, or neither? L1: (0, 8) (4,-6) L2: (-2, 9) (5, 7)

  10. Example #5 • Find the equation of a line parallel to y = -x + 4 that contains the point (-2, 5).

  11. Example #6 • Find the equation of a line perpendicular to 5x + 2y = 1 that contains the point (10, 0).

  12. Example #7 • Find the equation of a line perpendicular to y = ½x - 9 that contains the point (1, 7).

  13. Example #8 • Find the equation of a line parallel to 5y - x = 0 that contains the point (15, -4).

  14. Example #9 • Find the equation of a line perpendicular to y = -⅔x + 15 that contains the point (2, 8).

  15. Practice • WB 3-6 # 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 16, 18 • EXIT
