  1. Technology: The Final Frontier These are the tools and programs that will move our school and students into the next generation…

  2. Explore the World… With Google Earth Google Earth allows students to zoom in close enough to see buildings in Metropolitan areas. Students can zoom out far enough to see entire hemispheres. There is no longer a need for updating outdated maps and globes.

  3. Color the universe With Picasa…. Students can take digital pictures to express ideas, create presentations and study form, style and color

  4. Share Ideas… Start blogging The days of deciphering handwriting are gone as journals are replaced with interactive blogging between students and teachers. Many programs have full teacher controls over content posted.

  5. Collaborate Instead of students worrying about working with different operating systems or using flash drives, Google Docs and Spreadsheets and writeboard.

  6. Present… Again, the limitations of having to use the same program as students create projects using online programs such as Windows Photostory.

  7. How is all of this achievable? If…. • Only 67% of students in our school have internet access • Only 73% even have access to a personal computer at home • Students only have one 40 minute block of computer time in a 6 day rotation • Many classroom teachers are uneasy with technology

  8. New Tools and Ideas

  9. I Pods…not just for music Students and teachers can now download fascinating, educational podcasts and listen to or even watch them. This is also a very valuable tool for students with special needs as they can take a lecture with them. They are also affordable and easy to use.

  10. Laptop Carts….. The addition of rotating laptop carts in the school would aid in student to computer time and up the student to computer ratio. Laptops are also much more affordable and available for school purchase.

  11. Club 3:15 in the computer room By moving club 3:15 to the computer room students will be encouraged to work on computer-based projects and programs with the support of a teacher.

  12. Once a week late bus By providing a late bus once a week students will have no reason not to stay after school and have access to the technology they do not have in school.

  13. Recycling unused computers back into the community.. Each year computers are discarded by the school because they do not have the operating system or the capacity to work on the school’s network. These computers can be raffled off to students in need of technology at home.

  14. SmartBoards! • increase student engagement, • improve student behavior during class, • improved overall student learning, and • proved successful in subjects such as Fine Arts, General Studies, Business & Marketing, Physical Education, Special Education, and Computer Education, and Language Arts classes in addition to English and Math
