  1. The World’s Wife The World’s Wife is the name of a collection of poems written by Carol Ann Duffy, originally published in 1999. The poems are all narrations provided by female characters, and provide a female perspective on many stories (both real and fictional) from throughout history. The characters in these poems vary greatly. In some cases, such as Mrs Midas and Mrs Aesop, they are the wives / partners of well known male characters, and their narratives provide a female perspective on the actions of their husbands. Other poems reimagine male characters as female, such as The Kray Sisters. Others, such as Havisham, simply provide insight into an existing female character. The poems typically provide female perspectives on a world typically dominated by male opinions and perspectives.
