  1. Mecine meeting may 7, 2012Bio-based economy – Alternative energyPlans, Experiences and Considerations ROSKILDEKOMMUNE

  2. Biobased economy = alternative energy - Covenant of Mayors Goals: 20 % CO2-reduction in the community before 2020. - Improvement of alternative solutions partly based on biomass Focus Power & heating:Strategy for heating and energysupply. Buildings: Municipal buildings, schools, technique, lighting, industry, private and public houses. Transport: Municipal fleet, public & private transport, mobility plan public/private - car/bicycle. Planning: Strategic town planning, raising building density, transport and parking in the city, car out – bus + bicycle in. Public involvement and cooperation: campaigns (shops, villages), green fund, local climate council.

  3. Heating and Power • 50 % of CO2 emission comes from heating of buildings • Conversion of gas, oil and power to district heating, • Implementation of biomass ‘fuel’ in district heating, • Plans for solar cells/-heating, biogas/-mass and windmills. • Potential in CO2-reduction 110.000 t pa (70%)

  4. Transport Electric bikes for commuting • 35 electric bicycles in action • 2 month testdrive by citizens – total of 105 test drivers • Citizens were commuters by car with a minimum of 5 km to work • 73 % used the bicycle instead of car • 40 % will buy an electric bicycle for themself • Average mileage of 400 km pr. driver (42.000 km) • Estimated reduction of 6 t CO2

  5. Public involvement and cooperation Energy Village Herringløse • Village with 418 inhabitants/200 houses and without district heating or gas: Oil, electric & biomass heating, heatpumps (air, soil) • Meetings with focus on alternative energy in local citizens defined organisation • Work focus on: • Options for local district heating • Local heatproducers: Biogas, biomass, windmills, etc. • Citizen to citizen knowledge transfer (showroom at the neighbours) • Strengthening the collaboration between local professionals • Renovation af buildings with better insulaton • Common buying of electricity and insulation • Energy day in the village with craftsmen

  6. Windpower • Community plan for windpower 2013 • Windpower can support individual heatpumps in areas without waterbased distribution systems • Or common heatpumps and common waterbased distribution systems • Geotermi to be investigated

  7. Solarcells • Solarcells to beinstalled in municipalbuildings (1,5 mill. Euro) • Actualgoodincentives for private individual solar plants in family houses.

  8. Biomass - Biogas • Biomass to be used in combustionplants in connection with local district heating system • Biogas challenge: Combination of suited biomaterials in sufficient amount within sustainable distance. • Biogas used in local power/heating plant with district heating • Biogas used in existing gaspipes for natural gas
