The Law School Admissions Test • LSAT (Law School Admission Test) • Best time to take exam (summer prior to senior year or early fall of senior year) • Prepare fully for the test – Average vs. High Score • Investigate fee waiver • LSAC-CAS (Law School Admission Council – Credential Assembly Service) • LSAT score and writing sample • Transcript evaluation & copies of all transcripts • E-application (application, recommendations & personal statement)

Application fee and fee waiver • Application – Apply before deadlines • Suggested File Completion Date for Merit Scholarship: • January 9, 2015 • Priority Date for File Completion: February 2, 2015 • On-line application through LSAC • $60 Application Fee • Miami offers merit or need-based waivers. • LSAC Fee Waiver • If granted an LSAC wavier, Miami Law will automatically give applicants a fee waiver to apply.

  9. New Initiatives Dean Patricia White was named the most influential woman in legal education by the National Jurist in 2013. Dean White has started an array of new and innovative initiatives during her leadership. Highlights include: More Joint Degrees Seven additional Joint Degree Programs have been approved. Externship in D.C. with Professor Copeland Career Development Office Miami Law’s Career Development Office has ten advisors with law degrees who assist students in navigating the national and local job market. More Hands-On Training • A greatly expanded externship program. • Legal Communication and Research Skills course is taught by full-time instructors who guide students in conducting sophisticated legal analysis, and drafting legal documents. • Litigation Specialization Certificate Program for those interested in being a litigator/trial lawyer. International ExchangeOfferings: New study abroad options being offered in Versailles, France; Berlin and Hamburg, Germany; Zurich, Switzerland; Haifa, Israel; Dublin, Ireland; Spain; China; Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Innovative ProgramsMiami Law boasts LawWithoutWalls™ and The Idea of the Hospital. The Mindfulness in Law Program is Miami’s commitment to preparing students for academic excellence and legal expertise while providing the tools to maintain a fulfilling work-life balance.

Friede & Associates, which specializes in FDA-related legal and regulatory matters. • The Art of the Deal: Acquiring a Music Publishing Catalog, Harold Flegelman, Partner and Co-Chair of Corporate Media and Entertainment at Loeb & Loeb, LLP. in L.A. • Entertainment Law: Motion Pictures and Television, Nichols La Terza, an attorney at The Point Media in LA, whose practice focuses on production, finance and distribution. • World Trade Organization Dispute Settlement, Pablo Bentes, Director of International Trade & Investment at Steptoe & Johnson's D.C. office. • Class Action Litigation, Adam Moskowitz, partner at Kozyak, Tropin & Throckmorton. • Human Rights & Environment, Daniel Magraw, Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and President Emeritus at the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL). • Law and Economics of Intellectual Property and Innovation, Eli Salzberger, professor at the University of Haifa Faculty of Law and formerly served as the school's dean, President of the European Association for Law and Economics (2008-2011). • Basic Concepts in International Arbitration, Professor Jan Paulsson, Michael Klein Distinguished Scholar Chair at Miami Law, practices with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Paris, President of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration. • The Law, Literature and Capital Punishment, Professor Susan Bandes is known as a scholar in the areas of federal jurisdiction, criminal procedure and civil rights. • The Role of In-House Counsel at a Non-Profit, Lesley Rosenthal is the Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

  11. Miami Law’s New Course Offerings Taught by Experts from Across the Country and Internationally. Examples include: • Corporate Skills for New Lawyers Areas covered by the course will include: - MBA Essentials for Lawyers – Business Strategy; Competitive Theories- How do clients choose a lawyer? What criteria do they use and how do you match them?- What clients want in service delivery – the view from the General Counsel. - Building a powerful network of contacts and developing a personal brand. • Representing the Professional Athlete This course is taught by Professor Peter Carfagna who serves as Senior Counsel for Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP, in Cleveland, one of the preeminent Sports Law firms in the country. He has also served as Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel of International Management Group (IMG) and was Senior Partner at Jones Day LLP. Areas covered by the course will include: - Problems an agent/attorney confronts when helping an athlete “go pro.” From there, the class discusses the agent’s fiduciary duty to his client and proceed to discuss some of the more important legal doctrines relating to the athlete-representation profession, involving intellectual property law, labor law, and contract law. • Compliance E-lliance This all-­virtual synchronous course will provide students with an overview of the current and evolving compliance landscape and emerging best practices both within the United States and Germany. • LWOW-X (www.lawwithoutwalls.org) Over a 3-month period, LWOW X teams up students from 4 law and business schools around the world—Miami Law, University of Montreal, University College London, and IE University—with academic, lawyer, and entrepreneur mentors to develop business plans that tackle the main problems facing legal education and practice today.

  12. Guest Speakers Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy • Justice Kennedy spoke at length about the Framers of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the separation of powers and the concept of checks and balances. Richard Susskind, Authority on the Transformation of Legal Practice and Services • Susskind, Order of the British Empire, is an author, speaker, and independent advisor to major professional firms and to national governments. His main area of expertise is the future of professional service and, in particular, the way in which IT and the Internet are changing the work of lawyers. He has worked on legal technology for over 30 years. His latest book, is entitled Tomorrow's Lawyers (2013). Ambassador John Bolton • Former Ambassador John Bolton delivered a lecture on "America in the World: The Obama View“ at Miami. Ambassador Bolton discussed sovereignty and American exceptionalism.

Students from law schools around the world are paired up to conduct investigative research on an assigned topic to identify a problem in legal education or practice.
