Scope of Work for Camden County Cancer Plan • Complete a Needs and Capacity Assessment to Implement the State Plan at the county level • Network with individuals/agencies to identify resources/gaps • Work with Local CEED Coordinators to build a coalition to implement identified strategies • Work closely with Local Health Departments to integrate the Cancer planning process into the county level implementation of the Public Health Standards Act of February 2003.

Lung Cancer in Camden County • Lung and Bronchus cancers kill more people than the top three cancers of Prostate, Breast and Colorectal Cancers • 87% of Lung and Bronchus Cancers are attributed to smoking • Over 60% of Lung and Bronchus Cancers are detected in late stages of the disease

Recommendations for County and Local Priorities • Concentrate on the top 4 Cancers • Follow the NJ-CCCP strategies for County • Two principles of implementation: (1) all general awareness, education, and screening strategies reach out to adults, 18+, and health care providers (2) primary prevention strategies provided for all school age children and youth
…for County and Local Priorities • General Awareness and Education for NJCCCP via coalitions and ACS activities; via presentations to major health care provider groups; via work with CCDHHS on their CHIP • Research Study on Primary Care Providers and Cancer Prevention, Screening, and Treatment • Continue to strengthen coalition work for Cancer Plan at local levels e.g. directory; larger membership on Camden County Cancer Coalition

….for Evidenced- based Interventions to address Camden County cancer problems • Prevention of Cancer (1) Physical Activity / Weight Management (2) Smoking Cessation Programs –adult and youth (3) “Never start smoking” programs for children and youth (4) Fruits and Vegetables • Cancer Screening by CEED programs (1) Minority groups - Black, Hispanic, and Vietnamese in six largest municipalities in Camden County with 64% of total pop. (2) Poverty areas – there are 12 municipalities with >10% poverty rates in Camden County (3) Use the NCIS medically underserved populations information for programs, media, and outreach strategies
