Google Earth Project DAI on Google Earth
GE Concept • 3Dimensional Visualisation Interface • Quick and Easy Data Publication • A blank 3Dimensional Sphere superimposed by satellite Imagery
GE Specifications • Primary Database (Satellite imagery and aerial photographs) • Reads and Writes in KML format • Cylindrical Projection and WGS84 Datum (Long. / Lat.:DDD,DMS,DMM) • Minimal System Requirements (3D acceleration card et 128kbit connection)
GE Features • Navigation Panel • Search Engine • Places and Layers Panels • Internet Browser • Measuring Tools
GE Attributes • Description • 3D Shape • Path • Image Overlay • (GIS data) • Placemark • GPS data integration
GE DAI Applications • Image OverlayGIS data extracted from NARR model
GE DAI Applications • Superimposed Imagesof GIS data extracted from North American Regional Reanalysis (NARR) and Gridded Population of the World (GPW) datasets. • Right image shows a time specific NARR temperature variable superimposed over population density data of the year 2000. The more dense areas are brighter and the warmer regions fall under the red color range. • A screen overlay can serve as a legend or as a scaled reference.
GE DAI Applications • Georeferenced 3 day temperature variation consisting of 24 frames, 1 frame / 3 hours playing at 1frame/sec. • The use of third party freeware is require for such animations (i.e.: EarthAnimator.)
GE DAI Applications • 2D and 3D graphical representation of weather station data can assume different shapes, sizes, colors and heights. • Name and value labelling is also possible. • Data is uploaded from spreadsheet to GE Graphs (freeware), which creates visual representations.
GE Weather/Climate Applications • The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Warning Decision Support System - Integrated Information (i.e.: KML index) * Top image is from http://wdssii.nssl.noaa.gov/geotiff/ • Top image represents the breakdown of regions covered by their data. • Left image represents Precipitation Rate radar_sum 120min of August 21st, 2006 at 19:20.

Production/Distribution Options GE Enterprise Solution Product Package • Google Earth Fusion Pro – integrates raster and vector data • Google Earth Server – distributes data to multiple users (up to 250 users/server) • Google Earth EC – user access to Google Earth Server– capability for users to add their own data Advantages • Uploads large amounts of vectorial, dynamic and raster data • Script and command line synchronised automatisation • Fast distribution to multiple users simultaneously • Easy user acess to DAI datasets over Google Earth database Disadvantage • Full enterprise configuration starts at 100 000 USD • To play animations user requires third-party freeware
Production/Distribution Options GE Pro Solution A GE Pro with GIS data importing module MatLab LibGeoTIFF TIFF image GRIB World File (georeference ASCII) 1 GeoTIFF +Projection definition Advantages Disadvantages • No need for GeoTIFF to KML conversion • Mass production possible through automatisation using scripts • Various possibilty of task distribution between user and DAI • Free Academic subscription for a year • User can import one GeoTIFF at a time
Production/Distribution Options GE Pro Solution B GE Pro with GIS data importing module MatLab LibGeoTIFF MatLab TIFF image GRIB World File (georeference ASCII) 1 GeoTIFF KML +Projection definition Advantages Disadvantages • Batch conversion of GeoTIFF to KML • Mass production possible through automatisation using scripts • Various possibilty of task distribution between user and DAI • Free Academic subscription for a year • Google Earth Pro required to extract georeference from a sample GeoTIFF and then used it to batch convert all GeoTIFF files into KML format
Production/Distribution Options GE Free Solution ArcGIS with KMLer Extension MatLab LibGeoTIFF GE Free TIFF image GRIB World File (georeference ASCII) GeoTIFF KML +Projection definition Advantages Disadvantages • User must extract files in predetermined directories or else a server is required for storage and reference • Google earth is Free • Mass production and distribution of KML files • User or DAI can import several images at a time • Various possibilty of task distribution between user and DAI
