  3. BSc Healthcare Science at Nottingham Trent University • Are being accredited for Life Sciences only • Blood Sciences • Cellular Sciences • Infection Sciences

  4. BSc Healthcare Science at DeMontfort Uniiversity • Are being accredited for Life Sciences, CR&S Sciences, Neurosensory Sciences, Medical Physics • All Medical Physics pathways - MEE • All CR&S pathways - MEE • Life Sciences/Neurophysiology - pending MEE

  5. BSc Healthcare Science – PTP Education • Integrated degree • 50 weeks placement in 3 years • Most academic content shared with other programmes, eg Biomedical Science • New modules needed in each academic year • Some teaching will have to be double delivered

BSc Healthcare Science – PTP Training • 10 weeks placement in year 1 • 15 weeks placement in year 2 • 25 weeks placement in year 3 • Training will be delivered on site at the placement supported by the HEI • Students will complete training/portfolio to allow regulation/registration on graduation

  7. BSc Healthcare Science – issues for HEI • Security of placements for all 3 years • Lack of financial support / time for part time work for students • Small cohort size • New modules required that are not cost effective – especially year 3 • Lack of input into curriculum / programme design

  8. BSc Healthcare Science – issues for HEI • Placements must be concurrent with or follow academic content of the degree • Lack of flexibility • Uncertainty of student outcome relating to registration etc • Employment prospects for students • Long term sustainability

  9. BSc Healthcare Science – issues for service • Timing and length of placements not flexible • Lack of clarity on student outcome relating to registration / regulation • Predicting availability of placements each year • Bunching of students on placement • Long term sustainability

  10. BSc Healthcare Science – solutions? • DMU and NTU are working together to develop common professional practice modules • Discussions between service and HEIs on placement availability etc • Both universities seeking MEE accreditation • HEIs working with early adopters
