Acumatica set out to create an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for small and midsize (SMB) companies that would reduce the complexities of this mission-critical application and make it available as a cloud service. The Acumatica ERP solution has been optimized using Windows Azure Cloud Services since November 2009. Acumatica uses Windows Azure SQL Database to store customer data in a structured manner with a multitenant design. Customers can manage their own customizations and schedule updates. Unstructured data—such as attachments, receipts, and documentation—is stored using more cost-effective Windows Azure Blob services. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer highlighted Acumatica as a key cloud partner in a 2010 speech.
