PHAB Workgroups and Committees Several committees and workgroups, comprised primarily of state and local health officials, will develop all aspects of the accreditation program. Standards and Accreditation Activities Review Committee will oversee three workgroups: 1. Standards Development Workgroup will develop the accreditation standards for state and local health departments. This Workgroup was finalized in October 2007; 2. Assessment Process Workgroup will determine how to evaluate whether a health department has achieved accreditation status, as well as how health departments can appeal decisions; and 3. Equivalency Recognition Workgroup will develop the process of determining whether state-based accreditation programs for local health departments are sufficiently similar to PHAB programs so as to confer national accreditation status to local health departments accredited through state programs. This Workgroup was finalized in October 2007. Research and Evaluation Committee will develop a plan for evaluating the assessment processes of the national program and identifying research that would improve the standards-setting and accreditation program. Fees and Incentives Workgroup will develop a fee structure for applicants and identify strategies for securing incentives for program participation. Public Outreach Committee will work with the marketing consultants to develop messages about accreditation in general and PHAB in particular. Subject matter experts will be engaged for the various committees and workgroups. MCPP Healthcare Consulting has been selected as the Standards Development Workgroup consultant. Mike Hamm & Associates has been selected as the consulting firm for the Equivalency Recognition Workgroup and the Assessment Process Workgroup. In addition, potential accreditation applicants will have an opportunity to weigh in on draft standards and measures, and to volunteer to be selected for a beta test. Following the program development phase, it is anticipated that applications for accreditation will begin to be accepted during winter 2011.
