Funding Analysis – Process • Looked at 2006-2008 grants of VFFN + JT • Analyzed grants through lens of existing reports
TOTAL FUNDING, 2006-2008 Total: $9.3 M $1.4 million • $9.3 million awarded; 536 awards granted • From 2006 to 2008 grantmaking increased by $2.3 million • Average grant amount is $17.3K • From 2006 to 2008, average award size almost doubled from $11.5K to $21K • Meanwhile the total number of awards increased from 162 to 197

FUNDING PER CAPITA BY COUNTY, 2006-2008 Counties with highest ag sales Counties with low level of local food activity Childhood poverty rates > national average • Counties with low levels of local food activity getting little funding/capita • Counties with high childhood poverty rates are also getting little funding/capita • Several places with low local food activity have high childhood poverty • Franklin county – the largest ag producer in terms of sales – receives little funding per capita & has one of the lowest activity levels in the state • Grand Isle received no funding

FOOD HUB EMERGENCE, 2006-2008 Food Hubs Farmers’ Mrkts • Food Hub funding increased dramatically from 2006 to 2007, and increased slightly from 2007 to 2008. • More than 60% of food hub funding supports programs • Operational support has increased with time, while support for capacity building and planning has dropped
