  2. The OT and the Christian • The Old Covenant was made with the Israelites at Mt. Sinai (Deut. 5:1-2). • By His death on the cross, Jesus brought the Old Testament to an end (Eph. 2:14-16). • The New Testament is the law that is now spiritually binding for all men (Mark 16:15). • So what purpose, if any, does the OT serve in the life of the Christian?

The OT and the Christian • It was Written for our Admonition • I Corinthians 10:1-10, 11 • Paul, in warning these brethren not to sin and face God’s wrath and judgment (I Cor. 10:6). • The writer of Hebrews, in exhorting the saints to remain steadfast (Heb. 3:12-19). • James, in encouraging Christians to be patient in their suffering (James 5:7-11). • Peter, in warning of false teachers and scoffers (2 Peter 2-3).

The OT and the Christian • It was Written for our Learning • Romans 15:1-4 • Provides a record of God’s faithfulness, how He kept His promises to Abraham(Genesis 12) • God’s judgments and punishment of the wicked and ungodly (Gen. 6, 19; 2 Kings 17, 25) • God’s deliverance and blessings bestowed upon the righteous (Psalms; 2 Kings 19, etc.) • The prophecies and promises of the OT fulfilled in Christ and His Kingdom (Luke 24:44).
