  1. Welcome to the Cuson Family’s Extreme Homestead Makeover – 1860 Edition!

  2. When we arrived in Oregon, we took our old home - (our covered wagon)…

  3. …and we tore it down.

  4. We used a lot of the parts of our wagon help us build our new log home. • To build our log home, we also had to chop down a lot of trees. • We made a mixture of mud and put it between the logs. This mud gets hard and helps to keep the cold out. • We like log homes better than dug outs because we think they will last longer and we don’t want bugs in our house!

  5. Our Homestead is located 10 miles from Oregon City. We chose this site because the land is so beautiful and we wanted to live away from the city.   6. Parts of our Homestead: • We built our homestead near a stream so we can have fresh water. • We plan on raising cattle to sell for money. We will also use some of the meat from the cattle to feed our family. • We built a log barn for our horses and our cattle.
