年休 (Nenkyū: Paid Leave) • Be thoughtful and considerate • Check with JTE about work • Summer, winter, and spring break • Exam days? • Different situation for Japanese teachers • Use for emergencies, health issues, family issues
祝日 (Shukujitsu: Holiday) • Many national holidays! • Golden Week: 3 days off in the same week at the beginning of May • Caution! • Gunma Day: May not be a day off • School Breaks: Students’ break ≠ teachers’ break
病休 (Byoukyū: Sick Leave) • Entitled to it! • Check your contract for details • Maximum is 20 consecutive days • Check the method to take sick leave at your school • Medical documentation • May be required if you take several days off
病休 (Byoukyū: Sick Leave) • Ask specifically for it • May assume nenkyu (paid leave) otherwise • If unresolvable problems arise, contact Jaime • Call school if you can’t make it • Don’t abuse it! • Teachers may visit you if you are sick
代休(Daikyū: Compensatory Leave) • Compensates time spent at work outside of usual work hours • Sports day, weekend classes, etc. • Specific day or at teacher’s discretion • Usually taken within a weekof event • Check with JTE if you’re choosing a day
特休 (Tokkyū: Special Leave) • Very limited! • Can be paid or unpaid • Check your contract! • Examples: • Bereavement leave, marital leave, natural disaster leave, commuter transport system failure leave, pre-natal leave, post-natal leave, nursing time, menstrual leave, etc.
