BACKGROUND TO THE ROUNDTABLE In 2009 the NEC of SALGA adopted SALGA’s LED position paper on Local Economic Development . The position paper highlighted various challenges faced by the Local Government sector and other key stakeholders who are involved in the field of LED.
BACKGROUND TO THE ROUNDTABLE Some of the challenges highlighted in the position paper includes; Multiplicity of stakeholders engaged in various projects and programmes Poor co-ordination around LED activities, Thus missing opportunities for shared learning and information dissemination. A need was identified for a constructive dialogue amongst key stakeholders who lead, manage, fund or support LED initiatives within the LG sector.
PURPOSE OF THE ROUND TABLE The objectives of the session is therefore to; Share information on project activity (both successes and failures); Exchange information on the existing partnership activities in the field of LED; Identify sectoral and geographical focus areas of various stakeholders; Identify approaches to ensure improved sharing of useful LED knowledge; and Identify approaches to lead to improved co-ordination.
THE APPROACH The approach that is adopted in preparation for the round table discussion is the questionnaire. The questionnaire was circulated to all identified key stakeholders who are conducting a range of activities in the field of LED. The questionnaire( QUESTIONNAIRE SALGA NC LED ROUND TABLE V2.xlsx)was comprised of 4 sections with a total of 10 questions. The sections were: Section A: Background Information Section B: Focus Area Section C: Projects / Programmes Section D: Expectations
TARGETED STAKEHOLDERS The questionnaire was circulated via an online survey, e-mail and fax to the following stakeholders, this was followed by telephone follow-ups to all identified stakeholders.
