  1. Build – A – Boat! – Grade Two Assignment • We are going to build boats! Each student is expected to create a structure that will: • Float on the water table provided in class • Support a 200g weight without sinking • Be stable in the water • You will be able to use any materials from the list provided below. If you wish to bring alternative materials to use, you much check with the teacher first. Please bring your materials to class with you on Tuesday October 21 so that we can make the boats in class. • List of Materials Provided in Class: • Styrofoam • Balloons • Straws • Popsicle sticks • Tape (and kind) • Paper • Cardboard • Plastic bags • Plastic/Styrofoam cups/plates • Cork Once we have completed the boats and have tested them in the water table, you will be given the challenge of modifying your boat to support a 500g weight. You will need to change the design slightly to support the increased load. You will be marked out of four based on successful floatation, stability, and ability to support the given weight. Details on marking are in the attached rubric.
