  2. Why Collect Power Plant Data? • “Business today is awash in data and data crunchers but only a few companies have transformed this technology into a strategic weapon. Their ability to collect, analyze and act on data is the essence of their competitive advantage. These top companies are outsmarting and outmaneuvering the competition because they made information analysis and management a distinctive capability, one that is fundamental to their formula for doing business.” (Wall Street Journal April 2006.)

  3. Why Collect Power Plant Data? • Electric energy is a key factor to make the world a better place for all. • If we learn from each other and share information on power plant problems, then we can help the people we serve live a more productive life.

  4. Two PGP Working Group #2 Objective: 1-Provide a benchmarking tool based on design & performance. 2-Help set realistic goals for power production.

  5. World Energy Council PGP Update • Performance of Generating Plant (PGP) created a database similar to NERC pc-GAR over the last two years. • Presented PGP database to WEC at Rome Congress in November 2007 • Updated with data from PGP in April 2008.

World Energy Council PGP Update • Updated with data from PGP in April 2008. • Currently, 37 countries report to PGP now. • 14 countries report in groups of units • 23 countries report unit-by-unit. • PGP encourages more unit-by-unit reporting to increase the quality of design and operating reseach.

Status of GADS Data • Finished collecting 2007 GADS data July 31, 2008 • 5,386 units (766,000+ MW) reported data to GADS in 2007. • 4,895 NA units (756,300 MW), an increase of 2.6% over 2006. • Represents 76.3% of the installed capacity of USA. • Countries outside NA • Now reporting: Brazil, Ireland, Malaysia, • Agreed to report: India, Thailand and South Africa.

  10. CEA Data to GADS Format • Completed the translation tables in 2007. • Received approval to start programming from CEA members in November 2007. • 75% complete as of the week of September 1. • Beta testing in progress. • Expect release for CEA by the end of October.

  11. INPO Nuclear Data to GADS • Working with INPO for several years. • Contract with INPO waiting for approval to exchange data. • Nuclear data collected by GADS is used by • GADS customers (utilities, consultants, ISO, PUC, etc.) and • DOE for reporting to IAEA and WANO

Wind Turbine Data Base • Created a WTWG in August 2005 to collect outage data and calculate KPI for WTGs. • Tried to match GADS 100% and it didn’t work. • Used many IEEE 762 definitions but not all • Update: • List of design equipment for grouping WTGs • List of definitions/equations for comparing WTGs • Beta testing of data collection complete
