The Cloud... • Everything you need to know about iCloud, DropBox and Google Drive to use these tools effectively in the classroom
Life in the "clouds" • Our mobile lives • New devices aren't meant for large storage • Use of multiple devices - we need them to be connected • Instant sharing of information with others
Why for teachers? • Teachers using iPads to store student work • iPad labs set up - different iPads each time • Managing multiple technology in a single classroom • Need to efficiently share information with parents/staff
What we want to cover • What is iCloud? An overview of features and how to set this up with all devices - how to use iCloud across multiple devices • What is DropBox? How to set it up and use it - how do I share files? • What is Google Drive? How do I use this with my current Google system? How can I collaborate simultaneously? • How can I move files in and out of my different systems and see all of them • Can I create information in one system and have it automatically saved in another?

iCloud - what you need to know • Free to create account • Multiple accounts can be created • Backups of documents and data (Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie) • Sync notes, calendar, reminders • Set up free email account • Photo Sharing
One Teacher - Many iPads • Create an activity or template and any student can open it on any device • Free access online to all tools • Use a single class email account to see all work • Use Photostream effectively - iPad originals or for projects where you need to share pictures
DropBox • www.dropbox.com • Most popular - most apps sync • Share folders - copies of work is created in multiple locations • Eliminates "emailing" information
Google Drive • drive.google.com • Many schools already using Google Docs - free tools for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets • Features similar to DropBox • Simultaneous editing • Document comments
Why teachers/students use it • Collaborate with other members of the team (parent, teacher, student, RSP, therapist, etc.) • Students turn in their homework • For students who need work adapted • For teachers who want to send out homework/curriculum quickly and easily - one step!
Many apps have their own syncing • Evernote (taking notes - photos) • Pictello (create stories) • Audio Note (notetaking) • Show Me Interactive (interactive white board)
CloudOn • www.cloudon.com • Switch between all of your storage files • Create documents • Edit documents • Share files • Easy to manage on mobile devices
iCloud files - where to find them • Hidden - but they are there • User - Library - Mobile Documents • From your computer, you can transfer files from one storage system to another to save space • Cloud Mate (paid) - Plain Cloud (free) www.makeuseof.com/tag/browse-locate-your-icloud-files-from-your-mac-using-cloud-mate-plain-cloud
Fancy Trick • www.noodlesoft.com/hazel • Hazel - Mac Extension • Can set up so that all files will automatically transfer to another storage file • Teachers who have storage space in other areas can use iPad apps
